Newcastle are considering reigniting their interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi amid a disastrous transfer window.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Newcastle have endured a dismal window thus far, missing out on multiple targets, including Yoane Wissa and James Trafford. The club are desperate to sign a new defender, but have met with frustration in their pursuit of Giorgio Scalvini, and are, as such, considering reigniting their interest in Guehi, for whom they saw three bids rejected last summer.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Guehi is valued at £50m ($67m) by Palace but Newcastle would rather pay closer to £40m. Given their inability to land top targets, they may well be forced to pay the fee given Howe's desire to strengthen. Thus far, they have signed Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton.

Guehi has been a Palace stalwart since 2021 but his contract expires next summer, somewhat weakening the Eagles' bargaining position.
